Generations of Craftsmanship
Yana is a visual artist and craft practitioner working across contemporary wall art, sculptural forms, jewellery and select furniture pieces using wood mosaics and straw marquetry. Her work explores the interplay of light, colour and grain, underpinned by a strong commitment to craftsmanship. Two key themes inform her artistic practice: an exploration of the inner architectures of human consciousness—labyrinths of memory, emotion, ego, and time—and a form of eco-cubism, in which natural forms are deconstructed and reimagined through geometry and fragmentation. By translating plant structures, decaying leaves and timber microstructures into mosaic and marquetry, Yana seeks to preserve fleeting natural phenomena while reflecting on impermanence, transformation and ecological connection.
Yana’s artistic foundation is rooted in a lifelong apprenticeship with her father, master craftsman Chaim Factor, where she trained in traditional furniture making, some lutherie - crafting a classical guitar, mandolins and harps. Decades of hands-on experience have instilled a deep respect for material, process and form. This lineage of craftsmanship continues to inform her contemporary practice, bringing rigour, sensitivity and meticulous attention to detail across her sculptural artworks, fine wooden jewellery and functional pieces.
