This is a beginners woodwork class focusing on box making, spanning 6 evenings from May 1st, 7pm - 9pm.

Boxes offer so much variation in style that they are a fun and fantastic way to get familiar with your material, learn key woodworking techniques, and build some familiarity with hand tools.

The class begins with “the beginner’s box”. A sliding lid design, with materials partially prepared for you, but that still requires the use of the Japanese handsaw, hand planes, electric sander, abrasive papers and then finishing with Shellac and beeswax. While the basic design is prepared you still have an opportunity to make the box unique. This will take approximately 2-3 classes to complete.

Next you transition to a box that you design yourself with lots of help and inspiration from our many books on box making.

Here you can decide upon your timber, choose a specific type of joint to learn, apply veneers or inlays.

It is hoped you will have time to complete the two boxes within 6 wks, but that also varies from person to person and individual designs.

Cost: €150 for 6 wks. Deposit: €50 remaining €100 due first class.
